Sugar Sammy Profiled on CTV’s National newsmagazine W5 - This Saturday at 7pm
If you had to script the perfect year, it would be tough to create one better than comedian Sugar Sammy’s 2018. Whatever the opposite of annus horribilus is, that’s what he’s living. This Saturday (November 10) at 7pm on CTV Canada’s national newsmagazine W5 profiles the Montreal-born comic. CTV National Bureau Chief Geneviève Beauchemin spent time with him both in his hometown of Montreal and in Paris, where he’s currently performing a residency at the Alhambra Theatre and doing dates in France, Belgium and Switzerland. Viewers will visit the Côte des Neiges neighbourhood where he spent his childhood and which formed the bilingual performer who would go on to create his ground-breaking comedy; the Olympia Theatre, the scene of his bilingual success and the neighbourhood he lives in when he’s performing in France. We’ll see a glimpse of his show in Paris and meet some of the people who have been a part of his journey in, arguably, the most in-depth study of the performer, so far.
In a year that has seen him featured in the New York Times, the world’s most prestigious publication; co-star in La France a un Incroyable Talent, one of France’s most popular TV shows; perform in Malaysia and Singapore; launch two DVDs and record a live show for Comedy Central Asia this TV profile is the cherry on top of the sundae, a great way to close off a stellar year. The ratings for the second week of La France a un Incroyable Talent are in and they’re off the charts: 4 million viewers, an increase from last week’s 3.5 million viewership and their best numbers since 2011.
But wait…the year’s not over quite yet!
