Standup comic Sugar Sammy has no shortage of audiences—he’s quadrilingual, performing in English, French, Hindi and Punjabi.

“All of those identities just melt into one to create something unique,” Sammy told CTV News prior to his English-language shows at The Laugh Shop in Calgary on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1.

Born and raised in Montreal, Sammy, whose real name is Samir Khullar, occasionally performs bilingual French-English shows, not just in Quebec but across Canada.

“Whenever there’s an event, they show up in droves, and I’m very appreciative of that. And the Francophone community in Alberta, they’re intense; they’re amazing,” he said.

He also has a following in France, where he’s a judge on La France a un incroyable talent, the French version of the Got Talent franchise.

The show reaches an audience of four million viewers per week.

Despite his legion of French fans, Sammy says they’re a tough audience.

“If I had to rank the toughest audience in the world, No. 1 is Paris, then ISIS,” he said.
